The Winter Showcase is a special opportunity to celebrate Scholars’ hard work from the semester, while also bringing families together to share a joyful meal. Families were invited to visit each classroom to see what their Scholars have been learning and working on throughout the first semester of SMART’s after-school programming. Here’s some of what they saw:
In both middle and high school, Scholars focused on social-emotional growth, thoughtful explorations of diversity and identity, and academic support – critical building components for a foundation of long-term success.
Middle school Scholars showcased meaningful, identity-centered work across grade levels.
- 6th graders presented personalized Learning Skills Toolboxes filled with reflections on their learning styles and strategies, along with paper dolls representing their individual, academic, and communal identities.
- 7th graders shared personal essays connecting their identities, interests, and future careers.
- 8th graders displayed a collaborative paper community quilt, with each square representing five dimensions of identity: culture, academics, interests, community, and life experiences – coming together as a collective celebration of shared stories.
High school Scholars showcased projects focused on deep self-reflection, leadership growth, and future-focused planning.
- 9th graders explored SMART’s core values through collaborative murals, identity wheels, academic lived-experiences maps, and reflections on self-advocacy.
- 10th graders shared goal-setting worksheets, leadership style explorations, future-self reflections, and summaries of their growth this semester.
- 11th graders presented nonprofit concepts aligned with their values, along with “About Me” brochures and written reflections on community impact.
- 12th graders celebrated submitting their CSU and UC applications by creating “I submitted” pennants and senior vision boards highlighting their hopes for the year ahead.
