SMART’s Summer Academic Enrichment Program serves rising 5th and 6th grade students to prevent and reduce instances of summer learning loss, while providing enriching activities to develop and strengthen the positive bonds of youth to their peers and communities.
The program’s academic curriculum is centered around literacy and math curricula, and offers enrichment courses in areas such as science, media, dance, coding, sports, and more. Furthermore, each Friday Scholars participate in STEM-based field trips designed to expose them to the sciences outside of the classroom environment.
Research consistently shows that the following components are important to quality summer academic programming: small class sizes, high quality instruction, engaging programming, consistent attendance and participation, sufficient duration, and involved parents. Our programming meets and exceeds recommended best practices in this field. This includes students-teacher ratio, hiring quality certified teachers, and more. The program takes place five days a week for six weeks in June and July, from 8:30-4:15 PM with additional care and homework support offered through 6:00 PM.
